Outstanding Contribution Award

About

The AIMIA Outstanding Contribution Award for an individual who has made a significant contribution to the growth and success of the Australian Interactive Media and Digital Content industry, demonstrated a capacity to inspire and a willingness to foster industry development generally. Judged by a group of industry peers, this Award recognises the person's contribution to the industry as a whole, rather than to any one company. Mere success in business, or achievement of a senior position, is not sufficient to qualify.

The Award was not given for some years, but the board of AIMIA decided to revive it for the 12th Annual AIMIA Awards where it was awarded to Mr Tom Kennedy. At the 13th Annual AIMIA Awards it was awarded to Mr Chris Winter. At the 14th Annual AIMIA Awards the National Executive elected not to make the award as no candidate of sufficient distinction was put forward. The 15th Annual AIMIA Awards congratulated Peta Pash for her Outstanding Contribution to the Digital Media Industry.

Criteria

Any AIMIA member in good standing (ie financial) may nominate any individual for this award - the recipient does not have to be an AIMIA member. Members will have to login to the members’ only area of the AIMIA website in order to complete the online entry. Please email info(at)aimia.com.au if you require your login details or wish to discuss AIMIA membership.

To be successful, a nominee will need to be well known outside the company they work for, and have contributed to the growth of the industry and that may be through such initiatives as contributing to or organising industry events, mentoring, promotion or innovation. Past winners have been industry pioneers, engaged in lobbying, mentoring, providing industry with (free) information, or have pioneered particular forms of work. Above all, nominees need to have had a substantial influence on the industry.

Criteria include the degree to which the individual has acted selflessly on behalf of the industry, the degree to which they are widely known, and the degree to which they have influenced interactive media development in Australia.

Nominations must be accompanied by:

(i) a brief bio of the person being nominated;
(ii) the details of their contribution to industry;
(iii) the contact details of the nominee; and
(iv) the contact details of the person making the nomination.
Nominations received without these details will not be considered.

Current members of the AIMIA National Executive, current State Presidents, and current staff are ineligible for nomination. This award is meant to recognise outstanding contributions, not be a pat on the back for work for AIMIA.

The AIMIA National Executive will judge the nominations and select a single individual for the award by means of a secret vote. The National Executive may elect not to make the award if no candidates of sufficient distinction are put forward.

In assessing the award, the National Executive will give consideration not merely to success in the industry, but to a record of assisting the industry as a whole. Merely succeeding in business is not enough to merit the award - the recipient should have demonstrated a capacity to inspire, and a willingness to foster industry development generally.
