Walkley Media Conference: Inventing the Future

The future of Australian journalism has never been under such intense scrutiny. As the government’s media inquiry holds hearings to look into the health of the news business, journalistic ethics and media regulation, the Media Alliance and Walkley Foundation are assembling leading journalists and media thinkers from Australia and around the world to examine the shape of things to come.

The Walkley Media Conference: “What’s the story? Inventing the Future” will run from November 25-27 in Brisbane. Walkley Advisory Board chairman, Laurie Oakes, says the conference is a ‘must see’ event:

“For anyone involved in, or interested in, the news media this is an event not to be missed. We’ve all got questions about the future health of journalism – this conference will answer most of them.”

Speakers will include: the ABC’s MARK SCOTT, the Director of the Knight Foundation’s Grants Program in the US, JOHN BRACKEN; the CEO of Fairfax Media, GREG HYWOOD, executives from all the major media companies as well as household names such as ANNABEL CRABB, RICHARD FIDLER, JOHN BIRMINGHAM and WENDY HARMER.

The conference kicks off on Friday November 25 with master classes, a session on how to use Google Tools and an exciting panel discussion featuring some of Australia’s leading “digital dragons“, journalism entrepreneurs who will tell us how they developed their business from a good idea to a going concern. Saturday November 26 is a full-day with a range of discussion and practical “how-to” classes on multi-media journalism, publishing and media ethics. Sunday November 27 focuses on the future and importance of social media and a top-line discussion on how superfast broadband will change the way we will all produce and consume content.
