AIMIA SUPPORTS FRAMEWORK FOR A GROUP BUYING CODE OF CONDUCT

CUDO & SPREETS UNVEIL FRAMEWORK FOR A GROUP BUYING CODE OF CONDUCT

Cudo

Sydney, June 8 2011 – Leading Australian group buying sites, Cudo and Spreets, today released the framework for a voluntary Code of Conduct for the Australian group buying industry. The Code has already been welcomed by industry analyst, Telsyte, and lays the foundations for revolutionising the burgeoning category.

Central to the Code is a draft list of ethical and best-practice commitments to merchants and members that participating sites should adhere to. Cudo and Spreets are inviting the industry to contribute to the content of this Code, with the aim being for a final Code to be agreed in the coming months.

Cudo CEO, Billy Tucker, shares the rationale behind spearheading the development of the code:

“Cudo and Spreets, as industry leaders, recognise the importance of putting merchants and members first, ensuring the group buying experience continues to be strategically sound for merchants, and enjoyable and worthwhile for members. As the category grows, our introduction of this voluntary Code of conduct provides a framework from which to implement some of the fundamentals of good group buying and promote best practice. We’re welcoming our industry counterparts to join us in developing and adopting this voluntary Code of Conduct.”

Spreets CEO and Co-Founder, Dean McEvoy, shares his views on adopting the Code of Conduct:

“As market leaders we know that success in this industry is measured by the experiences of our merchants and members and we believe we have a responsibility to provide merchants and members a level of confidence around their group buying experience. The Code of Conduct will help deliver this and we call on the rest of the group buying industry in Australia to join us in developing and adopting the Code.”

Industry bodies and associations have been quick to show support for the introduction of a code of conduct, with the Australian Direct Marketing Association (ADMA), Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA), Hair & Beauty Industry Association and industry analyst, Telsyte also endorsing the proposed initiative:

“Telsyte is in support for a code of conduct for the Australian group buying industry. This is a positive first step to create a sustainable and valuable industry for the benefit of consumers and merchants,” comments Sam Yip, Senior Research Manager, Telsyte.

“ADMA fully supports the group buying community taking a proactive step towards responsible marketing. We are looking forward to assisting them to ensure best practices adopted by marketers Australia-wide are embodied in their industry standard,” said Jodie Sangster, CEO-Elect, ADMA.
